Our veterinary team will walk you through the entire process, giving you the tools to make informed decisions regarding your pet’s treatment options. We understand surgery is a stressful time for any owner, and we’re available every step of the way to answer questions and put your mind at ease.
Declaw Policy
Metropolitan Veterinary Center opposes feline declawing as an elective procedure and supports non-surgical alternatives instead. This statement does not apply to claw removal when medically necessary to treat conditions such as tumors, chronic infections, etc. When deemed medically necessary, the procedure must follow current best practices for amputation, including multimodal pain control before, during, and for an appropriate length of time after the surgery.
Our veterinarians strongly believe in fully educating their clients on all aspects of declawing, including the lack of medical necessity, possible side effects, ethical issues and most importantly the positive alternatives. These alternatives are crucial in providing feline owners with the options they need to care for their cats with claws.
We strongly encourages all cat owners who may be considering declawing, to talk to their veterinarian and fully educate themselves on the non-surgical alternatives before and after adding a cat to their family. We believe by doing this, we can help humans and cats live together in harmony.
